Candle Care

Proper candle care:

A great candle experience begins with proper candle care and maintenance. Here are some important burning tips for your candle..

Preventing memory rings.
As with all candles, the first burn is the most important. To begin, candles should burn one hour for every 1 inch in diameter of the candle size. Therefore, a large jar should burn a minimum of 4 hours to liquefy the entire top layer of the wax. If the wax is not allowed to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge of the jar or tumbler, it will create a “memory ring,” especially if this is the first time the candle is lit. Once a candle has this “memory ring,” it will continue to tunnel and to burn that way for the life of the candle.

Keep the wick trimmed to the proper length at all times. Keeping your candle’s wick trimmed helps it burn more cleanly and efficiently. The proper wick length of my candles varies by size, shape, and fragrance. Each candle I make will have this information on the bottom.

When wick trimming, you should always extinguish the flame, let the candle come to room temperature, and trim the wick to the length stated on your candle’s bottom label before relighting. I do suggest trimming the wick every 4 hours of burn time.
